When the war broke out in Ukraine, the owner of a Polish hotel immediately offered to accommodate forty people. Around seven hundred women with children took up his offer. Among them were Marta, Valentyna, and Ann.

Director Lieke Heil created a short documentary about the fear and the longing for their loved ones: "Present are the Absent." A mosaic narrative about three women who each deal with the absence of their loved ones in their own way, whom they had to leave behind in Ukraine. "Present are the Absent" will premiere at the Dutch Film Festival in September 2023.

Aengus composed the soundtrack and fascilitated the musical themes in the film.
Collaborating closely with Lieke Heil and the creative team, Aengus orchestrated a symphony of sound that echoed the film's essence, enhancing its impact. Although the challange was to keep it small and feature the feeling that the story was portraying without creating the false hood.

aengus havinga began developing his artistic language early in life. Growing up in various parts of Europe he was surrounded by a various amount of parallel cultures. And thanks to his parents obsession with electronic music and dance, Aengus is able to experience music within various forms.
but wait
he learned to play some piano as a teenager visiting some classic, emo pop and indie rock, but quickly gravitated to teaching himself music production with a midi keyboard and laptop. In his lowkey home studio Aengus channels his wide range of interest and incorporates it in his personal sound in developing an own signature.
